How Do I Take Care?

How do I take care?

How am I cared for?

What happens when time trips me up?

When I start calculating absences and counting losses?

When I go numb in the spin of numbers?

This skin, my bones, breath, are time-limited.

My dreams will likely outlive me.

But I’m not out of time yet.

Here today

Preparing to be present with whatever comes tomorrow.

Owning up to what’s mine even if others don’t.

Taking ownership of the wisdom moving through me.

Pulling weight out of rhyme

Finding the rhythm in this time

How do I care for what I can’t grasp or keep?

For what will outlive me and has lived before me?

For who will come after and what has come before?

How do I care now so that life goes on beyond me?

How will you?
